The summer heat is here and it's great to be able to spend active days in the sunshine. Did you know that by choosing the right materials for your summer clothing, you can make it easier to feel comfortable in the hot weather. Tencel/Lyocell, merino wool and hemp are excellent materials for this.
Tencel is lyocell, which is also a man-made fiber from wood pulp. The raw material for Tencel is derived from the eucalyptus. The manufacturing process of Tencel is more ecological than the manufacturing of other man-made fibers from wood pulp.
Tencel is a firm fiber with good dimensional stability. It has a soft and silky feel. Tencel has good absorption properties and it evaporates the moisture from the skin.
Tencel does not crease easily and it drapes beautifully. It is naturally antibacterial and it feels soft on the skin.
Why Lyocell is such a good material:
Soft and comfortable to wear
Absorbs water better than cotton, yet dries faster
Extremely resistant to bacteria, so no bad odors
Resistant to shrinking
Hemp is a fast-growing and prolific plant. Hemp cultivation does not deplete the soil, does not require irrigation, fertilisers or pesticides. Hemp also protects itself and surrounding plants from weeds and insects.
Hemp fibre is the strongest plant fibre in the world. It is very strong, wet-resistant and long-lasting. The fabric softens in use, does not fluff and keeps its shape well.
Modern textile processing makes hemp a softer and more breathable material than cotton.
Top 5 reasons to wear hemp material:
- Super breathable material
- Anti-Microbial, have less of an odor when you sweat
- Great absorbent so it will naturally draw moisture away from the skin, keeping you feeling dry
- Strong & durable
- Softens with use
Merino wool is the ultimate material for spring and summer adventures keeping your fresh in every weather. It's the perfect fabric for varying outdoor conditions when you need to stay warm in a cold climate or stay cool in a warm climate. The wool also absorbs moisture without feeling wet or cold.
When buying wool, you should look for standards and certifications that ensure the fair treatment of animals and the respect of the environment, such as the Responsible Wool Standard and ZQ Merino Standard.
Mulesing is a painful surgical procedure for sheep and it can be avoided. It is a method used by some sheep farmers preventing their sheep from being killed by infections caused by insects. Luckily, there are other ways to keep sheep safe from these insects but they are more expensive in the long run. We offer only 100 % mulesing-free merino wool products.
Why to choose merino for summer:
- Natural odor control, doesn't stink
- Temperature regulating capabilities
- Keeps you fresh and dry
- Dries quickly
- Super soft
- Airing is usually enough, doesn't need to be washed as often as other materials
