Fair Trade

Fairtrade International (FLO) is a non-profit organization focusing on the empowerment of farmers and workers in developing countries through trade. As Fairtrade has grown, FLO has developed new ways to connect farmers to business to increase their Fairtrade sales, bring more Fairtrade benefits to them and give people more ways to support Fairtrade farmers.

FLO independently check that their standards have been met by the farmers, workers and companies that are part of products’ supply chains. And in order to reassure consumers that this has happened, they use the FAIRTRADE license.

FLO provides leadership, tools and services needed to connect producers and consumers, promote fairer trading conditions and work towards sustainable livelihoods. All the farmers and workers receive a fair trade price for their cotton and a premium: The Fairtrade Premium is an additional sum of money which goes into a communal fund for workers and farmers to use – as they see fit – to improve their social, economic and environmental conditions. Fairtrade Labelling Organizations International is the legally registered name for ‘Fairtrade International’.

The most widely used fair trade certification is FLO International's, the International Fairtrade Certification Mark, used in Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia and New Zealand.
