EMAS

EMAS (the Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) is a voluntary environmental management system for companies and organizations to evaluate, report and improve their environmental performance. It is developed by the European Commission and is based on international environmental systems like ISO 14001; environmental system and -reporting. The companies engaged in EMAS are constantly decreasing emissions and waste in their business and also minimizing the use of natural resources and energy.

EMAS stands for:

  • PerformanceEMAS supports organizations in finding the right tools to improve their environmental performance. Participating organizations voluntarily commit to both evaluating and reducing their environmental impact.
  • CredibilityThird-party verification guarantees the external and independent nature of the EMAS registration process.
  • TransparencyProviding publicly available information on an organization’s environmental performance is an important aspect of EMAS. Organizations achieve greater transparency both externally through the environmental statement and internally through employees' active involvement.

Companies and organizations committed to EMAS are allowed to use EMAS-logo and EMAS-certificate.
