The North Face's sustainability
We expect the brands we choose in our collection to meet our sustainability criteria. Our criteria consist of actions that take the environment, social conditions and climate into consideration. Here’s how The North Face meets our criteria:
Environment:
Brand uses environmentally preferred raw materials for more than 70% of its volume.
- The North Face uses environmentally preferred raw materials for more than 70% of its product volume. They prioritize materials like recycled polyester, responsibly sourced down, organic cotton, and other sustainable options. They are working towards making all of their products from recycled, regenerative or responsibly-sourced renewable fabrics. They are on their way to hit that goal in 2025 with clothing and 2030 with equipment and footwear.
Brand reports on the implementation of its environmental policy related to the ‘wet processes’ within the production cycle, like bleaching and dyeing of raw materials
- The North Face uses tools like VFs CHEM-IQ system and bluesign membership to evaluate preferred chemistries and processes that are less environmentally impactful.
Brand has eliminated at least three suspect chemical group, such as Phthalates or Perfluorinated Chemicals from its entire production
- The North Face have replaced their Durable Water Repellency (DWR) chemicals with non-fluorinated options and are committed to using non-fluorinated solutions across all of their products as much as they can. They also share standards for chemical safety with all of their suppliers and maintain a Restricted Substance List (RSL) that identifies chemical substances restricted from their products for regulatory, safety and/or environmental reasons.
Brand encourages the longevity of products by offering a lifetime guarantee, repair services or supporting the return or re-use of garments
